Louisville-area firefighters deployed to North Carolina rescue hundreds of people in the wake of Hurricane Florence. The Jefferson County Fire Special Operations team, made up of men and women from Louisville area fire departments were deployed to North Carolina on Wednesday. They’ve been stationed in Pinebluff, a rural area about two and-a-half hours from the coast. “When they were put there, they were the only water rescue asset within a two county area," said Kent Kruer, the team's commander. "So they were covering a big area." Until Sunday, they were waiting for the storm to get to them. When it finally arrived, it brought a tornado and torrential rains that flooded roads, homes and other buildings. They spent over 16 hours straight rescuing about 200 people.
