Coroner identifies man found dead in Jeffersonville house fire

A man and a dog died Friday morning in a Jeffersonville house fire, according to officials. The fire was reported around 5:15 a.m. in the 500 block of Allison Lane, Jeffersonville Fire Department spokesman Justin Ames said. Reynolds Deaton, 83, was found dead at the scene, Clark County Coroner Billy Scott said. Smoke was coming from the front of the house when firefighters arrived, Ames said. Firefighters battled a fire in the living room and found Deaton in a bedroom Firefighters entered a bedroom through a window and pulled the man out, Ames said. Ames said the fire appeared to have started in the basement. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
