An off-duty firefighter rescued a woman who was confined to her hospital bed when a fire started on it early Wednesday morning.
The Brockton Fire Department responded to 63 Woodard Ave. about 6:40 a.m. after receiving a 911 call reporting a fire inside the home. On their way to the scene, firefighters learned from dispatch that there was an immobile woman inside the living room who was unable to get out of the house on her own.
They learned that from Firefighter John McLaughlin. He was off-duty at the time, but in the area and responded to the home, according to Deputy Fire Chief Brian Nardelli.
“He received a direct page from our system on his phone,” Nardelli told The Enterprise.
