It served the town for more than a century, but the old fire station on Watson Place will soon give up its title as the oldest firehouse in Framingham.
Town Meeting members voted Wednesday to borrow nearly $5.8 million to construct a new Fire Station 2 in Saxonville, addressing one of the town’s most pressing public safety needs.
The project, which has been on the town’s radar for decades, passed by a vote of 108 in favor and only one resident opposed.
“This is not a situation that we feel is in the least bit optional ...,” Selectmen Chairwoman Cheryl Tully Stoll said. “This is something that needs to happen. It is a safety issue.”
