Seven fire department officers with more than 140 years of collective experience were pinned by their wives and fiancé during a widely attended ceremonial dinner Wednesday night at Magoni’s Ferry Landing restaurant.
The officers included five captains promoted to newly created positions through negotiations and approved and funded by town meeting voters and the Board of Selectmen to elevate command oversight, along with two promoted lieutenants to fill positions.
With more than 100 people in attendance, including a contingency of Somerset police officer brethren in blue, both Fire Chief Scott Jepson and Selectmen Chairman Steven Moniz re-stated what they’ve said publicly that this was a milestone achievement for the fire department and the town.
“This is the biggest thing that’s happened in 25 years,” Jepson said.
