A couch fire late Thursday at Rock Harbor Village left one apartment burned with the resident taken to the hospital with minor injuries due to smoke inhalation, according to Orleans Deputy Fire Chief Geof Deering. No one else was injured, and a dog in the apartment was not harmed, Deering said.
The fire department was called to the 5-building complex at 11:10 p.m. where firefighters found the one-bedroom apartment in flames, but they were able to knock out the fire within about 15 minutes, Deering said. All the contents of the apartment were destroyed, he said.
A neighbor had helped the resident of the apartment out prior to the fire department arriving, he said.
