Fire In South End Boston Brownstone Sends 2 To Hospital, Displaces 29

Two firefighters were taken to the hospital and 29 residents are without a home after a fire ripped through a brownstone on Columbus Avenue Tuesday afternoon. Fire officials estimate $750,000 in damages and the cause of the fire is still under investigation. A report of a fire came in just after 2:30 p.m. according to the Boston Fire Department. When officials got to Columbus Avenue in the South End, they saw smoke pouring from the five story mixed use brownstone. Within 45 minutes all occupants were safely evacuated and the fire was put out. The two firefighters are expected to be OK. The building is on Columbus Avenue at the corner of Worcester Street and officials had the area closed off to traffic into the evening and asked folks to avoid the area because of traffic.
