Michael Kelleher of Morningside Drive, who joined the local fire department as a junior firefighter while still a student at Foxboro High School, has been named the town’s next fire chief.
The selection was announced Tuesday night by town manager William Keegan, who has sole authority to appoint department heads.
Kelleher, 39, is currently one of two deputy chiefs on the Foxboro Fire Department. The second, Thomas Buckley of Hill Street, who joined the force in 1997 on a full-time basis after serving as a call firefighter for seven years, also was a finalist for the chief’s position.
