Fire officials said some plumbing work involving a blow torch was likely to blame for a fire that displaced a family from their 47 Claflin St. home on Tuesday night. Chief Mark Nelson said firefighters spent about three hours battling the one-alarm blaze that broke out about 6:02 p.m. Tuesday. No injuries were reported, but damage done by smoke and water was extensive, according to the chief. Hopkinton and Medway firefighters joined Milford in fighting the fire, while Franklin and Hopedale units covered the Milford stations’ dispatch calls. Nelson said crews saved the single-family house, which will require rehab work because floorboards and tiles were soaked from being hosed. The cause of the fire was likely due to a mishap by a worker, the chief said, adding that it seems to have started in the walls adjacent to the home’s downstairs bathroom.
