For hours after a tanker carrying 12,000 gallons of gasoline rolled over killing the driver and seriously injuring another person, an army of firefighters, police and highway workers labored to end the danger.
Firefighters arrived at the scene just south of the Airport Road overpass on Route 24 to find one man dead in a puddle of gasoline and a second man trapped and hurt in a crumpled car.
Fuel was spilling out onto Route 24 as well in the predawn darkness Thursday.
In the meantime, traffic was snarled throughout the north end of the city. A tanker truck driven by a 67-year-old man collided with a car on Route 24 northbound just after Exit 8A, the Airport Road exit into the industrial park.
