A woman was taken by ambulance to a hospital Monday night after the car she was in crashed through a barrier and into Stoneville Brook. The car came to a rest in the shallow water of the brook, which runs under a bridge over Oxford Street North, near Rochdale Street. The Auburn Fire Rescue Department reported on social media that the woman’s head remained above water as firefighters from Rescue 1 worked to extricate her. Neighbors said the woman appeared alert and conscious as she was carried from the brook to a waiting ambulance around 10 p.m. Police investigated as tow company employees assessed the situation. The car plummeted a significant distance, and the road was partially closed for a time.
