A fire broke out Tuesday morning in Harvard Square, leaving a building slightly damaged and closing Toscano Restaurant.
Cambridge Fire responded to the building on Story Street around 10 a.m. The fast-moving blaze began on the first floor, and there was heavy smoke showing when crews arrived.
Cambridge Assistant Fire Chief Paul Sheehan told WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Bernice Corpuz the flames spread to the back of the building.
"It worked its way to the outside," he said. "At that point, it burned through nine gas meters, so at that point it became a gas-fed fire. Pretty dramatic explosion on the rear of the building."
