Chelsea firefighters rescued eight people after they were trapped in submerged cars following the sudden and rapid rainfall Tuesday.
The Boston Globe reports that at about 5 p.m. Tuesday firefighters helped a driver and three passengers from a flooded car on Third Street. Drivers and a passenger were pulled from three separate cars on Vale Street around the same time, firefighters told the paper.
Firefighters had to wear water suits for the rescue. Drainage systems in two areas of the city couldn't keep up with the rain, firefighters said.
"People, they just drive through the water. It's amazing," Chelsea Fire Deputy Chief Wayne Ulwick told the Globe.
