Fire damaged Horton’s Market on Clinton Street Thursday night.
Fire Capt. Aaron Roy said firefighters initially responding around 9:40 p.m. to reports of a light smoke condition at the store on 117 Clinton St. eventually found a significant fire in the basement.
The captain said firefighters were able to contain most of the fire to the basement, and chased some extension up through the front walls of the store. Captain Roy said for the amount of fire that was in the basement, there was relatively little damage to the rest of the building.
There were no injuries.
Firefighters started clearing the neighborhood, just off Route 70, around 11:30 p.m. Power was cut to the building.
The cause remains under investigation. Northboro firefighters provided a rapid intervention team, or RIT.
