Voters said yes to spending $7 million for construction of a new public safety building, but turned down a request for $5,100,000 for the renovation of Bagg Hall at the Annual Town Meeting held on May 15 at the Thomas Prince School. Five building questions dominated the discussion. Two hundred, twenty-five voters attended the meeting and raised no questions regarding the $9,885,470.43 FY19 operating budget before voting to approve it. Although voters did not approve a full renovation for Bagg Hall, they did agree to spend $1,250,000 to repair and stabilize it. Facilities Steering Committee member Chris Conway said the northwest corner of the building has settled, and there is a large crack in the exterior veneer. ... The fire station was built in 1890, according to Fire Chief John Bennett. “We don’t want a Taj Mahal, we want truck bays where the vehicles fit and want to meet basic standards.”
