Fire consumed a Sandwich home early Sunday morning, destroying much of the structure before firefighters could even arrive.
The fire at 11 Jacobs Meadow Rd. started around 3:50 a.m., the fire chief said. By the time firefighters arrived, the home was about 75 percent engulfed in flames. A second alarm was struck to call for additional assistance.
Smoke was still rising from the structure around 7 a.m.
After dousing the flames, firefighters searched through the home to make sure no one was inside. A couple and their adult child are residents of the home, but officials say searches confirmed no one was inside during the fire.
One firefighter was taken to the hospital for head exhaustion.
The fire is not considered to be suspicious, officials said.
