Fairhaven: Fire at Jake's Diner possibly caused by discarded smokes

A fire Monday afternoon at the rear deck of Jake’s Diner was quickly extinguished by the Fairhaven Fire Department, said Fairhaven Firefighter/Information officer Wayne Oliveira. The fire was called in at 1 p.m. and firefighters arrived to see flames at back loading deck of Jake’s Diner at 102 Alden Rd in Fairhaven. A 911 call was receive from staff at Jake’s Diner reporting flames outside the building. Two engines and a ladder truck responded to the scene. When crews arrived, they found heavy flames on the back of the building involving the back stair and loading deck of the one-story diner. Patrons were evacuated and no injuries were reported. The fire was quickly extinguished within 20 minutes. The cause of the fire is under investigation but discarded smoking materials are a possible cause.
