The McDonald’s on Southern Artery won’t be serving up burgers for a day or two after a grease fire forced staff and patrons to evacuate the restaurant on Wednesday afternoon.
There were no injuries and all employees and customers were out of the building by the time firefighters arrived.
Quincy resident Stephanie Nye was eating lunch inside the building when the fire started.
“There was a bunch of smoke and all of a sudden everybody who worked there started screaming,” she said. “It looked like they were just fooling around and nobody really took them seriously, to be honest.”
Nye said one of the employees called the fire department and the others told customers to leave the building.
“They probably didn’t make it seem like as big of a deal as they should have, especially considering how many other things could have caught fire,” she said. “They should probably retrain their employees on how to safely evacuate a building.”
