A teen was rescued by firefighters after he fell through the ice on Mill Pond in Westborough. Westborough Fire Chief Patrick Purcell said the 19-year-old was ice skating with a friend when he fell through the ice Monday afternoon. "I think the ice had varying thickness throughout Mill Pond itself, but he was pretty lucky," Purcell said. "The water was very cold and hypothermia does settle in pretty quick." Purcell said multiple 911 calls came in at approximately 3:08 p.m., reporting that someone had gone through the ice on Mill Pond, which is on Mill Road. Firefighters responded in about two minutes and could not see anybody in the water upon arrival, but could hear somebody calling for help. Two firefighters wearing cold-water immersion suits entered the ice and had to walk approximately 2,000 feet out toward an island in the center of Mill Pond, where they found the teen in the water.
