Nine people were displaced early Thursday morning when a fire started outside a home and worked its way inside.
Car 56 (the deputy chief), Squad A, Ladder 1, Engine 4 and Engine 5 of the Brockton Fire Department responded to a report of a house fire at 30 Chester Ave. about 2:54 a.m. Chester Avenue is located between Belmont and Bartlett streets, just west of the downtown area.
FS7 (a field supervisor) and CA8 (a Brewster ambulance) later responded to the home to be on standby, but no one was injured.
“On arrival, all occupants were out of the house,” Deputy Fire Chief Brian Nardelli told The Enterprise. “There was heavy fire at the rear of the house on the deck.” Firefighters extinguished the porch fire by about 3:08 a.m.
“The fire did get into the basement,” Nardelli said. “They were able to get in there and open the basement up and knock it all down quickly.”
