Three units in a multi-family home were deemed uninhabitable following a fire Thursday afternoon in North Reading, according to a statement from the fire department.
Firefighters responded to a 911 call reporting a house fire at 114 Haverhill St. at 12:14 p.m.
Firefighter Jon Burt, who was attending a nearby hazardous materials team drill, was at the home within seconds and reported heavy smoke coming from the three-unit, multi-family home. All residents were able to evacuate, according to the statement.
Firefighters responded and knocked down the fire in 12 minutes.
Crews checked for any fire extension and searched all three units. Firefighters removed three cats and reunited them with their owners. All three units were deemed uninhabitable due to fire, smoke, and water damage.
