Hagerstown firefighters responded Sunday afternoon to a fire in a basement at 500 1/2 Mitchell Avenue, officials said.
A spokesman for the Hagerstown Fire Department said firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the blaze, which was reported at about 4 p.m.
Although it was a small fire, people living in the home will probably not be able to stay there for several nights until repairs can be made, the spokesman said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
