A preliminary report from the Office of the State Fire Marshal said an unattended candle caused a house fire on Camden Avenue. Firefighters responded to the fire at 705 Camden Ave. in Salisbury around 11 a.m. Tuesday and found a grandmother and baby on a second-floor exterior balcony, according to a Salisbury Fire Department Facebook post. They were removed from the balcony unharmed, but a report from the Office of the State Fire Marshal confirmed one adult female victim was transported to Peninsula Regional Medical Center. The fire took about 15 minutes to control, according to the Office of the State Fire Marshal. It caused $10,000 to the structure and $3,000 in damage to the contents of the home. The Facebook post also said the fire was contained to the first floor of the house thanks to an "aggressive interior attack" by the fire department. The State Fire Marshal's Office responded for investigation, and the Red Cross is helping the family.
