Three pet dogs perished when an accidental fire occurred Sunday in a garage at the rear of 138 E. Elder St., according to the Cumberland Fire Department. The cause of the fire at the Owen Hoover property was attributed to ignition of combustibles on top of an electric range that was accidentally activated. City Fire Marshal Shannon Adams investigated the fire that was discovered by neighbors who called 911. The property owners weren't home when the fire started. Storage items and a refrigerator were among items destroyed by the blaze. Damage was estimated at $10,000, Adams said. Cumberland Police also responded to the scene.
