Officers have collected “60 and counting” cats since Saturday from a home in the 12300 block of Sweetbough Court, an Animal Control officer said Thursday. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue hazmat units checked the site for ammonia gas Wednesday evening. Officer Lavonia Byrd said no one has been charged yet, but the investigation is continuing. The owner, a woman, has been very compliant, Byrd said. The home is about a mile south of Quince Orchard High School. The cats, from kittens to full-grown cats, have been medically evaluated and some have needed treatment. None have been euthanized, Byrd said. She was not specific on the animals’ medical needs other than to say they were complications that occur with too many cats in a small area.
