Fire Damages Funkstown Church

The cause of a church fire in Funkstown early Wednesday morning is under investigation. The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office says at around 12:09 AM, 22 fire fighters responded to Saint Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church at 24 East Baltimore Street, and spent 35-minutes bringing the flames under control. No one was injured. Damage is estimated at $20,000 to the structure, and $10,000 to the contents. Investigators say he fire originated in the interior parlor room. They also says the church had working smoke alarms. Anyone who has information on this fire which could help in the investigation is asked to contact the State Fire Marshal’s Office at 301-766-3888.
