Firefighters from the City of Hagerstown had a quiet morning on Wednesday despite the weather.
However, one call could change that.
Even though the snow might not hinder crews from arriving on scene, it could still be hiding something vital.
Fire apparatus operator for the city, Justin Malott, said that firefighters are encouraging resident to shovel out fire hydrants as they shovel their sidewalks.
"If we're coming down the street and need to be able to find that fire hydrant, in case we have a fire, [it's important] that we know where it is," Malott said.
Although fire hydrants are not residential property, and you won't see a fine for not cleaning them off, they can make a big difference in an emergency.
