Severe storms that passed through the D.C. area on Monday is believed to have caused two separate house fire in Takoma Park. Large flames were seen coming from the roof of a two-story house in the 900 block of Larch Avenue that started at around 8:45 p.m. Around 100 firefighters responded to the scene to put out the fire, according to officials. Another house fire happened earlier at around 7:50 p.m. in the 7200 block of Holly Avenue. There were no injuries reported in either fire and all of the occupants in both homes were able to get out safely. Fire officials believe the fires at each home were the result of lightning strikes in the area. Police said multiple wires have come down and there are several road closures in both areas.
