The community is remembering a man who dedicated decades of his life to their volunteer fire company. Jim Phillips, or simply Mr. Jim as many knew him by, was a volunteer firefighter for nearly 50 years after joining the Snow Hill Volunteer Fire Company back in 1970. His fellow firemen say he was well-rounded and respected by many. During his time with Snow Hill fire, Jim wore a number of hats from EMS Captain to the fire engineer and even the company’s chaplain. They say they could always count on him to be there. “You couldn’t ask very much of him that he wouldn’t be here to do. He would be there if the lady auxiliary had a fundraiser, he’d be there to help the ladies. If we had a fundraiser barbecuing chicken whatever he’d be right here and you couldn’t keep him away.
