The Cumberland Fire Department responded to 532 incidents in August, an average of 17 calls per day, according to Chief Donnie Dunn.
A total of 421 of the calls were for ambulances, including 19 outside of the city of Cumberland.
Fire and ambulance units responded to four building fires, one vehicle fire and two minor fires. The department also responded to 10 vehicle accidents, three hazardous material incidents, four flooded basements or water problems, six tree or power lines down, and three shorted electrical equipment incidents.
Cumberland’s ambulance was alerted to assist Short Gap six times, Cresaptown five times, Flintstone four times and Bowman’s Addition and Ridgeley, West Virginia, twice each.
