Officials: Wicomico County vacant house fire causes $170,000 in damage

A Sunday night house fire in Parsonsburg caused a total estimated $170,000 in damage, according to the Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal. A neighbor discovered the fire in a vacant one-story home on Pittsville Road in Parsonsburg shortly after 10 p.m. Sept. 16, officials said. The Pittsville Volunteer Fire Department was the primary responding agency, and it took 45 firefighters about an hour to control the fire. The fire marshal's office said the blaze originated in the rear interior of the home, causing an estimated $160,000 in damage to the structure and $10,000 in damage to its contents. The fire's cause is still under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the Salisbury Office of Maryland State Fire Marshal at 410-713-3780.
