The cause of Wednesday's fire that heavily damaged a two-unit residence at 1 Harold St. remains under investigation by the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office.
The 10:20 a.m. fire originated in a first-floor bedroom of the two-story building, fire investigators said.
LaVale Volunteer Fire Department directed the fire operation, controlling the fire 20 minutes after arrival. Thirty volunteer firefighters from various departments assisted LaVale.
Damages were estimated at $65,000 to the structure and $30,000 in contents.
The occupants were displaced and are being assisted by family members.
