Eight people were taken to hospitals after a deck collapsed Saturday at a Howard County home. Officials said all the injured people suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Howard County firefighters said three of the people were being treated at Shock Trauma in Baltimore, and the other five were taken to a local hospital. Officials said about 20 people were on the 20-by-40-foot deck when it collapsed. Multiple 911 calls around 4:30 p.m. brought Howard County firefighters to a house in the 4900 block of Bonnie Branch Road in Ellicott City. "It seems like the family was having a party and had family members and friends on the deck and that's when the deck collapsed," Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services spokesman Marc Fischer said. Although no one was seriously injured, emergency officials classified the collapse as a mass casualty incident.
