An investigation is continuing after a fire flared up at boiler room at the Northrop Grumman rocket early Saturday morning, leaving half a million dollars worth of damage in its wake, according to the according to the Maryland Office of the State Fire Marshal.
The blaze started around 1:57 a.m. Saturday in a one-story building on the Northrop Grumman campus, located at 55 Thiokol Road, but fire officials clarified that the site, which served as a boiler room, was just by the campus security gate. On-duty security guards were alerted when the boiler room’s overheat alarm went off, although they did not see any smoke or flames.
Fifteen minutes after they alerted maintenance, the security guards saw flames coming from the building. Approximately 20 firefighters from Singerly Fire Company arrived quickly and were able to contain the fire from spreading throughout the multi-structure campus.
