A fire that destroyed an Elk Neck residence early Saturday morning and killed two pet dogs, caused an estimated $250,000 in damage, according to fire officials.
A neighbor called 911 shortly before 4 a.m. Saturday after discovering the fire at a home in the unit block of Justice Way, fire officials reported. Investigators identified Cassie Nybo and Patrick Jones as the owners of the residence.
A crew of about 30 firefighters battled the blaze for about an hour before they were able to bring it under control, fire officials said.
Investigators estimated the fire caused $200,000 in structural damage to the two-story home and $50,000 to the contents of the residence.
Killed in the blaze were two pet Cane Corso dogs, according to fire officials.
A smoke alarm was present in the home, but whether the alarm was activated at the time of the fire is unknown, officials said.
