Mariaville residents packed their town office Tuesday night to vote on a possible new fire station.
Voters came out in favor of the move, with 49 votes for and 13 votes against building a new station.
Mariaville shares their fire station and volunteer department with the nearby town of Otis.
Fire officials said their current station, built in the 1970's, has no running water and no room to fit the larger fire trucks of today.
"Having a new firehouse - we're hoping that would aid in recruiting new personnel," said Craig Noble, the third selectman for Mariaville and a firefighter for the town, "because our volunteer fire department just like all volunteer fire departments and most organizations, we need more members."
In total, the cost of the new fire station will be $750,000, which Mariaville and Otis will split evenly.
Otis residents voted to build and fund a new station last week. We ran a story on that vote.
