PHOTOS: Nearly 20 animals were killed in a barn that was destroyed by fire Thursday morning in Appleton. Appleton Fire Chief Prent Marriner says they were called to the fire around 2:30 a.m.
When they arrived, the fire had spread to a truck nearby.
Most of the livestock was outside, but a dozen chickens and five piglets inside died in the fire.
It was knocked down quickly, but firefighters spent hours going through bales of hay in the barn looking for hotspots.
Six departments responded to the scene.
The chief says there is too much damage to know what caused the fire, but he believes it could have been caused by electrical equipment in the barn.
