An early morning house fire destroyed a home Sunday, Nov. 29 on Morrish Street in Burton. Burton Assistant Fire Chief Kirk Wilkinson said firefighters were called out for a home on a fire around 6:45 a.m. Sunday in the 2000 block of Morrish, just off Lippincott Boulevard. "We got here and the house was fully involved," said Wilkinson, with crews from all three city fire stations on scene. "Before the first engine got here the front half of the house collapsed, so it's most likely it was burning for a while and nobody noticed it until a neighbor woke up and saw it and called it in." Nobody was home at the time of the fire, Wilkinson said, with the neighbors able to make contact with the residents and determine they are out of town at this time. Crews went defensive on the fire and worked on dousing the flames until Consumers Energy could arrive and shut off a gas meter that was burning at the home. The cause of the fire is still undetermined. The intersection at Lippincott and Morrish was blocked as crews worked on putting out the fire. No injuries were reported to any firefighters at the scene.
