Three firefighters were taken to the hospital after battling a house fire in Holton Township Monday afternoon. Two of the three, including Blue Lake Township Fire Chief Jim Petrie, have been treated and released, while the third is still being monitored at the hospital after suffering from heat exhaustion. The fire started around 1 p.m. Monday on Syers Road just West of Holton High School. When crews arrived at the home, smoke was coming from the roof and some of the windows to the home. It took crews from six departments to extinguish the flames. Petrie was inside the home when the floor gave out on him, he was immediately helped out by other fire fighters. A family of three lived at the home which is considered a total loss. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
