"So very sad for the family and her friends and everyone involved," vacation resident Lori Clarke said. A Grand Rapids woman died over the weekend after being struck by lightning in Presque Isle County. She was working at a private boat house when it happened. The East Grand Lake Fire Department responded to the lightning strike Friday at the Presque Isle Harbor Association on the north end of Grand Lake. 9 & 10's Blayke Roznowski and photojournalist Noah Jurik have the latest on the accident and how to stay safe in storms. The East Grand Lake Fire Department says serious storms were rolling through the area Friday when a woman who was working near Grand Lake was struck by lightning. "Within minutes we were on scene and CPR was in progress by a bystander when we showed up," East Grand Lake Fire Department firefighter/EMT Paul Fournier said. First responders got Alyson Knenlein's heart beating again while on the way to the hospital, but she died from the lightning strike Sunday. They say the sooner CPR is started, the more likely someone can survive a lightning strike. "Usually what happens is it will stop the heart," Fournier said. "The electrical force going through you can stop the heart and the part about the early CPR is there's usually no other damage to other organs if you can get the heart started again."
