An teacher's iguana that went missing a month ago was found, but needed to be rescued from a high perch in a tree.
South Haven Area Emergency Services firefighters posted the saga on the department's Facebook page Tuesday, Aug. 23.
They used a ladder truck to reach the 5-year-old iguana, named Harold, and were able to safely capture it.
The two-foot long animal, owned by a popular South Haven teacher, went missing about a month ago when his cage was inadvertently left unlocked.
It's not clear how he survived the month on his own.
Homeowners near South Haven Place and Bailey Avenue noticed the iguana near their residence Tuesday. When police arrived, the frightened iguana scampered up a tree.
Firefighters said it was "a very emotional reunion" between Harold and his owner when they brought him down from the tree.
"A happy ending," a firefighter wrote.
