The Marine City Area Fire Authority and the St. Clair Area Fire Department are making sure that even when they can't be onsite, athletes and spectators at the East China Stadium will be protected. The two departments are presenting an automated external defibrillator to the East China School District to be used at the stadium, according to a joint news release from Marine City Assistant Fire Chief Dave Vandenbossche and St. Clair Fire Chief Dave Westrick, The presentation will be at 7 p.m. Friday before the kickoff of the Marine City-St. Clair football game. Vandenbossche said early defibrillation saves lives during a cardiac event. He also said the departments are not always at all athletic events at the stadium and having the defibrillator on site will ensure it is available if needed. The donation was made possible by both fire departmentss, which raised money through bottle returns, car washes, donations and fund-raisers.
