"We've identified the need in our area and we're just trying to expand our services to meet the need," Marquette Township Fire Chief Ron DeMarse said. The township currently does not have the ability to medically transport people. However, Marquette Township fire staff is already expected to be trained as EMT's, and be able to care for patients on site. "We, the township department have done EMS since the 80's," DeMarse said. "The three of us had meetings to try and see if this was even worth bringing to the board, so we finally did and said look at the stats, the statistics, of our crew what they're available to do it's going to be getting a couple more licenses for the vehicle i mean we're ready to go we just need the ambulance," Marquette Township Supervisor Lyn Durant said. According to staff, they are usually the first on the scene, and being able to respond even a couple minutes earlier could be all the difference.
