Clay Township officials are looking at dropping a 2-year-old effort to provide paramedic services. The township fire department is certified to provide advanced life support services, but a license to transport patients was recently denied by St. Clair County Medical Control and by the state on appeal. Supervisor Artie Bryson said that prevents the department from using the ALS certification as intended. Both the department and its vehicles must be certified every year, and Bryson said the township needs to decide about going back to providing basic life support before that happens again in March. “We did that with the idea of being able to transport with our fire department and create a revenue from the actual transporting of patients,” he said. “That never came to fruition. Then med control denied us our transport license.
