An Egelston Township man was hospitalized for smoke inhalation following a cooking fire at his home Monday.
The fire in the 200 block of Jennifer Lane was reported just after 5 p.m., said Egelston Township Fire Chief Mark Cleveland.
The victim, who lived with his mother in the two-story home, was transported to a hospital for evaluation and was reported in stable condition later that evening, Cleveland said.
The fire was caused by cooking oil and is considered accidental, he said. It caused heavy damage to the rear of the home, but it should be repairable, he said.
There was "heavy fire" when the first firefighting units arrived, and they had it under control within 10 minutes, Cleveland said. He said "excellent team work" resulted in the structure being saved.
