For 61 years Ray Skuta answered the call when his community was in need.
While he retired from responding to calls with the St. Clair Fire Department in 1991, he didn't hang up his hat completely.
As his younger colleagues responded to fires and traffic crashes and anything else that required emergency help, Skuta would go to the fire hall and man the radio and deal with the paperwork.
Skuta, 92, died Wednesday following an illness.
"He was dedicated. He enjoyed supporting his community," said St. Clair Fire Chief Dave Westrick.
Westrick said Skuta moved out of the area to be with family in the fall after becoming ill, but had plans to return in March.
