Authorities are investigating what led to a possible house explosion Tuesday evening on Detroit’s north side that left a 75-year-old man injured.
A blaze was reported at about 6:20 p.m. in the 11600 block of Gable, but a blast also appeared to have destroyed the structure, said Deputy Fire Commissioner David Fornell. “Window glass was blown almost two houses down. The walls were leaning.”
A neighbor rushed in through an opening and pulled out the 75-year-old, who was hospitalized at Detroit Receiving Hospital with burns, Fornell said. His condition was not known at 10 p.m.
Meanwhile, Hamtramck and Detroit firefighters were at the scene. Utility crews also were called to the residence to shut off the gas, Fornell said.
