Steve Martin has been the interim fire chief in Lincoln Park since mid-October, but it wasn’t this week that he was officially sworn in as the cities top firefighter and had the interim tag removed.
“It’s an honor to have the job,” he said.
Martin has been with the department for almost 21 years. He is the sixth man to have the chief’s job since 2010, and the 18th in the history of the city.
Martin took over the job when former chief Al Dyer left for the same job in Iowa.
“Al really started to change things around here,” Martin said. “We’ll continue to move in that direction. He was kind enough to leave a plan of where he sees the department heading.”
