Paramedics in Iron Mountain now have a few extra hands to help them out in emergency situations. All full-time and almost all of the part-time firefighters in the Iron Mountain Fire Department have been certified emergency responders for years now. But up until just last week, they weren't able to use what they were trained in.
"We can be the first responding unit on scene for medical emergencies,” said Jeff Friedenstab, Director of Fire Services for the IMFD. “We've got two ambulance services here in town; we are basically helping with those services, and we're providing those additional hands on-scene for some of the more critical patients."
