A suspicious fire at a vacant apartment complex closed Ballenger Highway and forced the Flint Fire Department to call for mutual aid on Wednesday. Multiple 911 calls came in about 6:15 a.m. on May 24 after passersby reported seeing flames coming from a building in the vacant Ballenger Court Apartments in the 800 block of Ballenger Highway near Court Street. When Flint firefighters responded, they found fire in the first and second floor of one of the buildings, according to District Commander Steve Cobb. "The Flint fire crews did a great job in stopping the fire and keeping it to this building," he said.
